Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why is the government doing all this?
    • We want to develop a sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem in Egypt that is capable of creating opportunities for entrepreneurs to build and grow their own companies; subsequently expanding the economy and levelling the playing field to create new job opportunities.

  • Why is the government interested in receiving shares in my company?
    • We believe that the value of learning, networking, and coaching provided by our program is of remarkable value. The Sherketak program is your first step on the ladder of progression and will significantly increase your chances for success and sustainability. Once we start investing in your idea, we are motivated to help you succeed by introducing you to people who can help assist you in your firms’ strategy, in addition to a continued commitment to link you to a network of professionals and a coaching approach that will guide you through your business journey.

  • What is social impact investment?
    • Social impact investments are investments that aim to create a positive social or environmental impact; as well as a financial return on investment.

  • What kind of companies are you looking for?
    • We invest in innovative ideas with great teams. Besides our general program, we also have two specialized tracks for financial technology and social impact companies.

  • How long is the program?
    • Our program officially starts with a 2-day bootcamp. Companies that pass the final selection round are then eligible to participate in our 16-week program.

  • Will we have access to a fabrication lab?
    • Yes. We have a fab lab in our facilities specifically for you to build and pioneer your technology and/or your product. While the rent and access to the equipment is free, you will have to purchase the materials you require yourself.

  • May I change the scope of my project during the 4-month cycle?
    • Yes, you may; as long as the new scope is agreed upon by all the stakeholders.

  • During the acceleration period, is there a daily routine for the entrepreneurs?
    • It’s your company, so you’ll be hard at work on your product. It is preferable to work at the Sherketak premises. This way you’ll have direct access to our facilities and team if you need anything. You can however choose to work anywhere else you want. About two or three days a week, we’ll organize informal educational sessions which we do expect you to attend for your own benefit.

We don’t tell you what to do or when to do it, but we create an environment that is crucial to help your startup grow. We’ll also make sure you have many experienced mentors around to help you.

  • What happens at the end of the program, am I on my own?
    • Never! You are now part of the Sherketak family and will continue to receive alumni support. We always work on connecting our teams with potential investors, mentors, corporate partners, press, and more even once they graduate our program.

You will have to relocate out of our co-working space; however, we do help teams find a good location after the program through our broad network and affiliated friends.

  • What happens if my company fails?
    • Things happen, and you tried. You’ll still have an impressive resume item for your next plan. You will have also met a large number of well-connected people who can help you tremendously with whatever you decide to do next. Hopefully, that translates into running another startup.

  • Do I have to be at the accelerator the entire period?
    • Yes. We require that you be primarily based in Cairo. This benefits you if you take advantage of the numerous acceleration opportunities, networking possibilities and coaching that we provide. The program is a major commitment, and we expect you to be present for a very intense ride! After the program you can relocate anywhere.

  • Does the program provide housing?
    • We don’t provide accommodation. However, we will connect you with other teams in the cohort and generally help in pointing you to viable options.
